The eighth grade will complete a grammar-based project based on our English textbook Voyages' "Scope and Sequence" checklist. This checklist references 187 grammatical points that every eighth grader should have mastered by graduation, with each student given a copy of this 5-page list.
Working in three large groups of seven members, each group will write essays on three assigned topics. They will create tests in which each of their three essays contains roughly 22 of these grammar points. The essays and questions they will create are based on the same general concept of the Chapter Challenges that follow every chapter in Voyages on a separate part of speech.
The three essays that each group will write will be based on nine thematic lessons done in class this year.
Yellow Group:
MC, RF, BB: Lorenzo Ruiz play
AlM, AuM: Christmas play
GC, AL: Mysteries of the Rosary and construction of rosary project
Orange Group:
DD, CR: Say Something Week
AK, BC, ED: Hamlet
LH, WA: Helen Keller
Pink Group:
MB, LO: Salesian saints
LG, EA, KM: Women's History
JP, TJ: Black History
Each of the nine essays written above will feature 22 grammatical points that will be inquired about at the end of the essay in 22 specific questions. All nine essays together will feature all the 187 grammar terms that we will review on e final time prior to graduation. Students working in each of the three small groups have subdivided the 65 terms each group was given to place in their assessments.
Each group will take the three tests created by all three teams, after the three groups have reviewed their assigned terms with the other groups.
Assignment due date: Wednesday, March 15
